How I Boosted My CV From 8 Pages to 1 Page - Lessons for SAYouth Applicants

 


As a young job seeker from Daveyton, I learned something important this week: a long CV is not a strong CV.


My old CV was 8 pages. It had my ID copy, driver's license, SARS letter, matric certificate - everything in one PDF. I thought more pages meant more chances. I was wrong.


Recruiters spend 30 seconds on a CV. If they have to scroll through ID copies, they skip you.


So I boosted it:


**1. I made it 1 page.**

Only the important stuff: contact details, professional objective, education, work experience, skills, and references. Supporting documents are now separate files. I only send them when asked.


**2. I added my SAYouth badges.**

On SAYouth.mobi I completed:

- Problem-Solving Capability (May 2025)

- Behavioural Profile (Oct 2023) - highest on behavioural activation


These badges push your profile to the top when employers search. If you haven't done "Boost your CV" tests, do them today.


**3. I highlighted what makes me different.**

I have:

- National Senior Certificate with Tourism and Business Studies

- Code C1 Driver's License with PrDP (Valid till 2028)

- Articulated Dump Truck Certificate - Unit Standard 262745, NQF Level 2 (TETA, QCTO, Dept of Labour Accredited)

- Microsoft AI Fluency Certificate (2025)

- General work experience at TANCAN SKY and Brakpan Municipality


Before, this was hidden inside 8 pages. Now it's clear in 10 seconds.


**My lesson for you:**

South Africa's biggest tourism strength is our rich cultural diversity and natural beauty. Your biggest CV strength is clarity. Stay calm, solve problems, and make the recruiter's job easy.
